Anchorage homeless need boots/shoes and Alaska Surgery Center answered the call!

Shoes for the Homeless, Inc. appreciates Alaska Surgery Center/Alaska Spine Center in Anchorage www.scasurgery.com partnering with us in collecting hundreds of pairs of snow boots and participating in our “Fill the Box” program. 2017 data shows homelessness in the Anchorage area is on the rise. The focus of our Fill the Box collection in Anchorage was snow boots and water resistant shoes. Common foot problems in the Anchorage area caused by wearing inadequate boots/shoes include injuries such as fractures and soft tissue strains and sprains as people slip in the snow and mud. Also commonly seen are frostbite and foot pain. A good pair of boots will often prevent many of these problems from occurring. The boots/shoes collected will be distributed to the homeless men, women and children by the Downtown Hope Center,

www.downtownhopecenter.org and the Clare House www.cssalaska.org our-programs/clare-house/. Thank you to the Surgical Care Affiliates for opening your hearts to collect lots of needed shoes/boots and working with SFTH!
