Homelessness Count on January 25 -- thank you to all of our volunteers!
The 2017 Greater Los Angeles Count took place last week. Thank you to all of our volunteers who spent their evening with all the other volunteers to count the homeless! There were more than 7,000 volunteers over 3 evenings. The final numbers will come out in a couple months and will help determine how precious resources will be distributed to different areas of Los Angeles. Participating in the Count is a marvelous community building event.
Total homelessness is increasing, not decreasing, in the greater Los Angeles area. The 2016 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count unfortunately showed a significant increase in overall homelessness. The Count helps LAHSA demonstrate the area's need for housing, shelter, and services programs to the federal government. It also raises awareness of this problem and focuses resources on the crucial projects.
Thank you again for your help!
